Red Panax Ginseng has been used by the Chinese for over 5000 years to cure and treat numerous ailments. The Chinese believe that ginseng preserves health. In fact, it is touted to be the most potent agent for restoring and preserving one's health and youth.
The word Panax is derived from the Greek and means something to the effect "all-heal" or "all-cure." Another word also found in English similar to this is "panacea." The word ginseng is the way the original word in Chinese sounds (similar to "jin-shen"). It means "man root" in Chinese. The reason is quite obvioius if you look at the picture to the right - the root looks like a human being.
Red ginseng is differentiated from white ginseng in that the white variety is grown 4 to 6 years and is raw. It s not considered to be as potent as the red ginseng. Red panax ginseng is grown for 6 years or more and then steamed to obtain the red panax ginseng extract.
Only the Chinese, Korean and Russian/Siberian ginseng varieties are referred to as Panax Ginseng. There is also American Ginseng as well as Tienchi Ginseng.
